Creating on Frameleaf
How to activate your channel and publish videos, comics, stories and lore, with formats, size limits, covers, series and visibility explained.
Everyone on Frameleaf starts as a viewer. To publish, you activate your channel in Studio. This guide covers setting up your channel, what you can upload in each format, and what happens after you publish.
Activate your channel
- Sign in and open Studio. You'll need to have verified your email address first.
- Activate your channel.
- Your channel is now at
/@username, using the username on your account.
Studio has six sections:
- Dashboard is your starting point in Studio.
- Content (/studio/content) lists every work you've made, including drafts.
- Upload (/studio/upload) starts a new video, comic, story or lore entry.
- Series (/studio/series) groups works into series and episodes.
- Analytics shows your views over time.
- Comments collects comments from across your works.
Set up your channel
Your channel shows your profile. In Profile settings you can add a name, avatar, banner, bio and website, plus links to your X, YouTube, Instagram, TikTok and Discord.
A recognisable avatar, a banner and a one-line bio help viewers understand what you make before they press play.
Before you upload anything, read the community guidelines, especially the rules on real people and copyright.
Upload a video
There are two ways to add a video.
Upload a file. You can upload MP4, WebM, MOV or M4V files up to 1 GB. We don't transcode videos or stream them at different qualities yet, so viewers play the file you upload. For the widest browser support, export as an H.264 MP4.
Link a YouTube or Vimeo video. Paste the video's link instead of uploading a file. It plays in YouTube's or Vimeo's own player on your work page. YouTube embeds use YouTube's privacy-enhanced mode (the youtube-nocookie.com domain).
Processing
After you upload a file, the work shows "Processing" while we read its duration. If you didn't add a thumbnail, we also take a poster frame from the video. When processing finishes, the work publishes, or returns to draft if you saved it as a draft.
If we can't read the file, the work shows "Processing failed". Export the video again in another format and re-upload it. An H.264 MP4 is the safest choice.
Upload a comic
- Upload your pages as images: JPG, PNG, WebP or GIF, up to 15 MB each and up to 200 pages per comic.
- Drag pages to put them in order.
- Choose a reading direction:
- Vertical scroll (the default) shows the pages as one long strip, webtoon style.
- Left to right reads like most Western comics.
- Right to left reads like manga.
Write a story or lore
Stories are narrative fiction. Lore is worldbuilding: characters, places, histories, codices and anything else that fills in your world. Both work the same way.
Write or paste your text in Markdown, up to 200,000 characters. Readers see an estimated reading time at the top.
Markdown cheat sheet

Leave a blank line between paragraphs. Raw HTML isn't allowed: if you paste HTML tags, readers see them as plain text.
Thumbnails and covers
Every work has a thumbnail. Thumbnail images can be up to 15 MB.
- Videos use a 16:9 landscape thumbnail. If you upload a video file without one, we use a poster frame from the video.
- Comics, stories and lore use a 2:3 portrait cover. If a comic has no thumbnail, its first page is used.
Your thumbnail and title appear wherever your work is listed, so keep them within the work's rating.
The details on every work
- Title, up to 150 characters
- Description
- Genres
- Made with, the AI tools you used
- AI disclosure, a short note on how AI was used (how to write one)
- Maturity rating: All ages, Teen or Mature (18+) (how to choose)

Series and episodes
Group related works into a series:
- Go to Studio, then Series, then New series.
- Add a title, a synopsis, a 2:3 poster and a 16:9 banner.
- Choose the series' primary format, its status (Ongoing, Completed or On hiatus), its maturity rating and its visibility.
To add a work to a series, open the work in the editor and choose the series. You can also give it a season and episode number, and it shows as "S1 E3".
A series appears publicly once it's set to Public and has at least one public, published episode.
Visibility and drafts
- Public: anyone can find it in listings, search and on your channel.
- Unlisted: anyone with the link can open it, but it never appears in listings or search.
- Private: only you can see it.
Drafts are only visible to you. Unlisted isn't a lock: anyone you send the link to can pass it on.
After you publish
- Your followers are notified. Publishing sends a notification to everyone who follows you.
- Analytics show your views over time. Repeat views from the same viewer within 6 hours count once, so refreshing a page doesn't inflate your numbers.
- You moderate your comments. In Studio, under Comments, you can see comments across all your works. You can pin one comment per work and delete any comment on your own work. If a comment breaks the guidelines, report it as well.
You can edit a work's details at any time from Content in Studio.
